Hebrews 8:12
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.

Hebrews 8:13
In that He says, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.

My Take:
The first covenant was only temporary. Sacrificing, memorization, and strict rules/law.... It worked to an extent, but Israel kept messing up. God then made a better covenant. Jesus is the only One true Priest now. Levitical law doesn't apply anymore. Hope lives.

John MacArthur's Take:
By its nature, the Covenant of Law was primarily external, but the New Covenant is internal. Soon after the book of Hebrews was written, the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed and its Levitical worship ended.

About Hebrews

Audience: Since there are several references to Hebrew history and religion, the epistle suggests mostly Jewish recipients, but there is no direct address

Author: Unknown. The literary style is inconsistent with Paul, Barnabas, Silas, Luke, and others... Ultimately, it's the Holy Spirit~
